With the release of Finding Home in July 2023 the Boone Series comes to an end. A coming of age story about an Appalachian teenager one reviewer called his “favorite literary character since Scout Finch,” the series, written in first person present tense, follows Boone Hammond from his sixteenth year into his early twenties. Left on his own after his family disintegrates early in Pushing Back, the first book in the series, Boone begins his journey into adulthood facing long odds with few assets. The product of an abusive relationship with his alcoholic father, he has few survival skills that aren’t centered in anger and mistrust. Entering a world that is both unknown and frightening, he is forced to grow up quickly.

Boone is, to put it mildly, rough around the edges. He makes a lot of mistakes and struggles to learn how to trust people, but he’s trying, which make him more like the rest of us than not. Like most of those who live invisible and unheard on the edge of society, he has a rich and complex story that deserves to be heard. I’m pleased to be able to share this fictional story of a young man struggling to get it right, and hope that I have done him justice.

The series can be purchased from my book catalog page here, or at your local independent bookstore (if they don’t carry the series they’ll be glad to order it for you). Also available at online retailers: Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Apple Books, and GooglePlay.

Many people deserve thanks here, at the end of the series. My wife Suzanne, my fellow authors at the Authors Guild of Tennessee, and many more. The young people I worked with over the years in treatment centers and residential facilities deserve special recognition. They served as the inspiration for Boone’s character, and taught me as much as I taught them.
