Clearing the meadow in front of my old house and the area around the two barns with the bush hog went pretty well, considering my skill level.

I’m starting to remember things, like the fact that the rear wheels have separate brake pedals, making very tight turns possible.

The trip back to the shed where the tractor is kept took me through a field that was recently mowed. The grass was still pretty short, the sun was shining, there was a soft breeze, and dozens of swallows were skimming just above the tops of the grass feeding on the insects stirred up by my passage. It was necessarily a slow ride and was a very pleasant way to spend a quarter hour.

Wrestling the tractor around the fields was hard work; the trip back through the field was relaxing and beautiful. A good balance.
