Big Weekend

Rachel Grimes. Lucy Negro Redux. Altered Statesman. Bela Fleck and Edmar Castaneda. Shai Maestro. Carl Stone. Caroline Randall Williams, Kendra DeColo, Ciona Rouse. Ralph Towner. Peter Gregson. Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi. Spiritualized. Honey & Salt. Songs of Our Ancestor panel discussion. Mosaic Interactive. The Grand Bizarre. Richard Thompson. Mountain Man. Shane Parish. Uncle Earl. Punch Brothers.

This is my weekend plan after my first trip through the Big Ears schedule, which means it’s nebulous at best. I won’t make it to all of them, and things will come up that aren’t on the schedule yet —  collaborations, surprise concerts, and so on — because that’s the nature of Big Ears.

If you’ve never tried Big Ears I highly recommend it. Given my eclectic tastes and curiosity about world-class music from people I’ve never heard of, there’s nothing like it. It’s the best thing Knoxville does. I’ll be back in touch on Monday or Tuesday with first impressions.

A career working with teenagers on the fringes of society has made me both sensitive to and appreciative of the complexities of character and the struggles, inner and outer, that we all wrestle with in one form or another. My writing emphasizes character development over action, and, as a lifelong Southerner, the rhythms and cadence of the Southeastern United States influence both my spoken and written voice.
